while many lagos residents were celebrating easter sunday ,Seven
suspected armed robbers were however busy terrorizing residents in
the state .
Their looting was however brought to an abrupt end when
anti-robbery policemen who had been alerted of their activity at the
Mushin area of the state egaged the ten man robbery gang in a shoot
out .seven of the armed robbery suspects were reportedly killed by
the police.
According to police spokes person Samuel Jinadu, the suspected armed
robbers “fell to the superior power of the police during a gun duel at
Mushin area of the state on Monday morning.”
The corpses of the seven suspected robbers and their weapons
Were on Monday displayed at the Lagos state police command
headquarters, Ikeja to serve as deterrent to other suspected armed
robbers in the state.
Mr. Jinadu, Said "On the 25th of April, 2011 at about 12.30am , based
on very reliable information, detectives from the State Anti-Robbery
Squad (SARS), engaged a notorious gang of armed robbers at Challenge
Bus Stop, Mushin.
In the gun battle that ensued between the police and the armed
robbers, a police corporal was shot in the abdomen and he is being
operated upon while seven of the armed robbers who came in a Honda
Accord Academy car fell to the superior firing power of the police ;
three of suspected armed robbers escaped with standby motorcycles.

Mr. Jinadu added that the police recovered sophisticated weapons
from the armed robbers and the fleeing robbers will soon be arrested.
“The items recovered from the suspected armed robbers are one AK-47
riffle with magazines loaded with 85 rounds of live ammunition, one
berretta pistol with 14 rounds of live ammunition, one pump action
riffle with 33 live cartridges, two locally made pistols ,one Berretta
pistol with 14 rounds ;. 9mm ammunition, charms, two iron cutters, one
hammer, Indian hemp and their operational car,Reg. No. Kwara AE 457
KSB. The suspected robbery gang killed two policemen in Vono area of
Mushin on Saturday; we are on the trail of those that escaped.” He
said
, Three policemen have been reportedly killed by suspected armed
robbers in the state recently. On April 24th a chief superintendent of
police and the Divisional police officer of the Alakuko police station
, Joseph Olamokun died in a hospital from gunshot wound he received
during a gun battle with armed robbers at the Target Gulf pin Down
Junction along the Lagos- Abeokuta Express way.
In another development, 18 passengers on Monday were involved in a
ghastly road accident that happened on the third Mainland Bridge
involving a commercial bus suspected to be speeding.
Eye witnesses said that the bus driver coming from Adeniji Adele area
of the state was heading towards Ketu when suddenly the driver lost
control of the vehicle and hit a pavement on the bridge before
somersaulting.
“A lot of people in the vehicle sustained serious injuries. Policemen
took them to the hospital for treatment,” an eye witness who requested
anonymity said
